Nes Ammim Volunteer Village
D.N. Western Galilee
Message Organisation

Nes Ammim is an international Christian community and village in Israel's Northwest Galilee, located 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. It aims to contribute to the creation of a new relationship between Jews and Christians following centuries of alienation and ignorance. The name Nes Ammim means 'a banner to or for the nations' and is taken from two quotations in the Book of Isaiah (11:10 and 62:10). In 2013 it celebrated its golden jubilee as a community after being established in the early sixties. The establishment was realized by a group of Christians who had lived through the horrors of World War II and the Nazi holocaust in continental Europe. Nes Ammim is the product of a dream - a dream of a radically new and positive relationship between Christians and Jews based upon mutual trust and respect. This excludes any thought of missionary activity directed at the Jewish people. The founders of Nes Ammim believe that such a relationship is not only possible, but absolutely essential. Surrounded by Jewish kibbutzim and Muslim and Druze villages, Nes Ammim is an ecumenical Christian community whose members and volunteers represent a broad spectrum of Christian tradition. It is a learning, serving, working and worshipping community. Its main commercial business is its kosher guest house for up to 170 guests (80% Israeli guests). However, real estate activities are also carried out with the construction, sales and renting of 91 house for locals and solar energy plans exist for the nearby future. The Centre for Learning and Dialogue (available for all volunteers) offers language courses, culturally enriching activities such as trips throughout the State of Israel, museum visits and more. It runs an annual work programme for young European students and includes a systematic encounter with Israel, Judaism and the roots of Christian faith. The majority of Nes Ammim’s inhabitants speak English as a second language. In case of any questions, please contact us.
